Juliette, Watercolor, 15 x 11″, ©Lynn Davis-Smith

I adore this watercolor for a few reasons:

  1. It was one of my first successful portraits
  2. It was painted during a wonderful workshop at Aravaipa with Ted Nuttall
  3. The subject is a little girl in France who is part of my “French family” that I lived with when I was a foreign exchange student in Lyon umpteen years ago

The red cowgirl hat, of course, comes with a story. My husband and I purchased it to send to Juliette in France. Juliette’s dad sent back a darling photo of Juliette in the hat. I painted it. Voila!
